What is the production process of PVC pipes?

Ever seen PVC pipe? A plastic tube through which people can carry water or gas. These pipes are extremely significant and can be found anywhere from our homes to hast buildings. But do you know how these corrugated pipe are manufactured? In collaboration with Fosita, a company dedicated to manufacturing PVC pipes.

How PVC Pipes Are Made

To Begin the process of making PVC pipes, gather all desirable materials. PVC is polyvinyl chloride, a unique plastic. PVC is produced using a unique process that combines into a chemical reaction. PVC is polymerized from vinyl chloride monomer with addition of ethylene and chlorine gas. These two allow a kind of powder (Vinyl Chloride Monomer or VCM) when combined together. This powder is a pivotal for preparing PVC.

Then, the VCM is placed in a reactor for being heated. The VCM is UHV and during the heating process is converted into PVC resin. This resin is mixed with additives like stabilizers that protect it from UV degradation, plasticizer to soften the polymer material, and also some pigments give color. This combination makes it strong and capable of withstanding water or light pressures within the pipes etc.

How They Are Made

Transforming the PVC resin into pipes The way this is done initially is by placing the PVC resin to an extruder machine. It is very crucial called as an extruder because it melts the resin through heating process. From there, melted resin is formed into a shape (termed as die) by the extruder. This die forms the melted resin into a long, tubular shape.

The tube exits the extruder and is quenched with water. That way the pipe can cool down in its shape and won't warp or bend.  Once the PVC pipe is shaped, it goes on to be sliced into correct lengths that are in turn employed inside plumbing systems.

Then the pipe moves on to another machine which is known as belling. It bell shapes one end of a corrugated pipe production line| This mechanism is very vital because it gives the pipe its shape. The bell shape allows the pipe to couple easily with other plumbing components. It is a critically important connection that will ensure water or gas can flow properly through the pipes.

Tidbit on PVC Pipe Manufacturing

Final Thoughts At Fosita, we do our best to manufacture quality PVC pipes. We test our pipe to offer durability reaching top-standards and standards you can trust. We want to be absolutely certain that our pipes work safely.

Testing, a super important part of our production process We do this by pressure testing our corrugated flexible pipe machine different grades and temperatures. This also allows us to ensure that we are using safe pipes and they wont corrode, burst or leak with time. A pipe that will not hold the necessary pressure simply does not get used and everyone is safe.

To add to our social interest roundup — we also give a crap about the environment. We try to use recycled materials where possible and lower the amount of energy we consume in our factories. That means we are making our pipes in an eco-friendly way and trying to minimize pollution/control the emissions.

Summary of the Process

In conclusion, several pivotal steps are taken in the production of PVC pipes. The process begins by blending ethylene with chlorine gas to form PVC resin. The resin is combined with other substances so that it can be as strong and colorful as they contain in themselves. Then we run the resin through an extruder, in order to make a long tube. The tube is cold, cut to length and the one end shaped with a bell forming machine. We test the quality of pipes as well and stay eco-friendly during this entire process.

In short, it is useful to know how PVC pipes are made and their importance in water as well gas systems.  At Fosita, we pride ourselves in being a quality and environmentally conscience company. We hope that this article has been useful for your to know what are the PVC pipes and how they have become so unique products day in our daily routine.
